Confessions...
This blog is not about which MAC lip liner you need or which Ben Nye powder you should buy.
This is a simple check list of things you should get when starting a personal makeup collection.
There are thousands of things you could add but these are the things I can't live without ;
- Sharpener- With small and large size holes. I can't tell you how many times I've not used a chubby eye pencil because I didn't have a sharpener. Or how many times I've tried to sharpen a small pencil in a large hole... it never comes out pretty.
- Brush cleaner - Use what ever you like. Washing up liquid, baby shampoo or actual brush cleaner. Get something gentle that cleans your brushes and doesn't break the bank.
- Scotch tape - Oh how I love this inexpensive cheat! Perfect for creating crisp lines when doing your eye makeup. However, stick the tape to the back of your hand and peel off a couple of times before you stick to your face. No need to spoil a perfect Arabic eye by waxing off the skin next to it.
- Tweezers - I like to have a slanted pair for my brows and a fine pointed pair for placing individual/cluster lashes.
- Brushes/Sponge - I can't live without my beauty blender. But in all honesty I didnt spend a fortune on brushes. I really think there are plenty of affordable alternatives to MAC/Sigma etc. But if youv'e got the money to spend, go for it.
- Makeup bag X2 - If you can fit your makeup in one bag you go Glen Coco, I'm proud of you, but I advise keeping your brushes/sponges separate. If anything cracks or leaks you really don't want it all over your nice clean brushes.
- Mirror with magnification - Good eyes or bad eyes we can all use a little magnification from time to time, especially when plucking stray hairs from our brows, or lips or ... chin! However, remember to look in a normal mirror from time to time whilst doing your eyebrows or you'll look more 1990's Pamela Anderson and less Kim Kardashian.
- Eye drops- You never know when you are going to need eye drops. Just the other day I woke up with severely dry eyes and rushed to my kit to find a bottle. Ive also used eye drops with eye shadows to change the texture. Its worth a try.
- Tooth brush - But for your brows. I find a nice small soft bristle tooth brush is great for brushing my brows prior to makeup application.
- Eyelash curlers- Just make sure they are clean and the rubber band is in place. No need to spend a fortune on these.
- Spare eyelash glue - I know most eyelashes come with some sort of adhesive but I always have a spare tube just in case.
- Vaseline- Not just for lips. This can be used on the eye lids to give a shine or to keep glitter in place. If I've run out of brow gel I put a small amount through my brows if they are a bit crazy.A little on the end of my nose if I have a cold to stop the skin flaking.
- Makeup wipes- Not for your face! UGH I hate face wipes on the face. But to clean the makeup off the back of your hand - Great! Spot clean makeup brushes- Sure! Clean makeup packaging - Why not ?
- Clean mascara wand - To comb through lashes before mascara and after to avoid clumping.
There will always be more things to add but these are a few of my essentials. You don't need to spend a fortune on any of these products. To be honest most things could be picked up in a pound shop or on eBay/amazon. Let me know some of your essentials or a time you've really needed one on this list.
